Alé – My First Documentary, the First Real Challenge of the Long Story
"Alé" is my first documentary and the project that introduced me to the language of the long story. It also marked the beginning of my collaboration with Erri De Luca, who broadened the narrative scope, pushing the story toward a more universal dimension.
Born on a very limited budget and produced by Soul Film with the support of Produzioni Dal Basso, the film was distributed on Mediaset Infinity, confirming the value of an independent work capable of reaching a wide audience.
A vertical tale of technical challenges and mystical places
The documentary explores a community of climbers for whom verticality is a form of inner exploration as well as a sport.
The production posed significant technical challenges: many shots were shot hanging from a rope, on the rock face, to convey the authenticity of the gesture and the emotional depth of the protagonists.
The trip to Greece, among the suspended walls of Meteora, added an almost mystical dimension to the story: a naturally vertical landscape, capable of intertwining movement, spirituality, and vision.
"Alé" thus becomes a choral tale in which the stories support each other and rise together, following the same direction as the bodies that seek the heights as an act of freedom.
